THE TENNESSEE FLYOVER – A Nyrstar worker at a Jefferson County mine died on Saturday following an early morning “underground incident,” prompting a full evacuation and federal investigation.
The mine was cleared after the 4:30 a.m. incident while rescue teams searched for the missing employee, who was later confirmed deceased.
The company, which processes zinc ore at the site, is cooperating with federal safety officials.
The victim’s identity has not been released, and the cause remains under investigation.
