| MURPHY NORTH CAROLINA MAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES - Friday, April 27, 2012 Murphy, NC— A 38-year-old Murphy North Carolina man was arrested Wednesday on allegations of downloading and distributing child pornography.
Scot Earl Bull was booked on ten counts related to the possession and transmission of obscene material depicting minors. His bail was set at $75,000.
Bull was arrested at his home in Murphy, North Carolina on Wednesday afternoon after the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search of Bull’s residence the previous day. The investigation began approximately three weeks earlier, when the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office became aware that child pornographic images were being downloaded and distributed from a computer linked to the residence. A forensic search of computers at the residence confirmed that child pornography was present on and being shared from a computer at Bull’s residence. |
| "Spice" found at Towns Co. Ga. Motel - Tuesday, April 03, 2012 On March 22, 2012, Towns County Sheriff’s deputies received information from several concerned citizens that possible illegal drugs and paraphernalia were in one of the rooms of a local motel.
Towns County Sheriff’s deputies and Towns County’s Appalachian Drug Task Force agent, assisted by Hiawassee Police, served a search warrant at that location and discovered multiple plastic baggies of alleged synthetic marijuana (Spice). These items were seized and charges are pending in this case.
Sheriff Chris Clinton stated that the use of these types of drugs is on the rise, as young people think they are a safe alternative to marijuana. However, there have been many cases of drug overdoses and serious medical issues attributed to the use of synthetic marijuana. One of the street name of this category of drugs is known as ‘Spice’.
Spice, which may look like ordinary household potpourri, grasses, or stems, commonly contains a ‘synthetic’ version of THC, intended to mimic the effects of THC, the major illegal component of marijuana. Besides the laboratory produced synthetic THC, spice also contains other sometimes unknown ingredients , many of which are harmful or could even be deadly if consumed by humans. It is illegal to use, possess or distribute any item containing the compound “THC”.
If a citizen has concerns or questions about this type drug, they are encouraged to call the Towns County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 896-4444. |
| THIS FISH IS FOR REAL!!! - Tuesday, April 03, 2012 Tyler Shields record Striper caught on Lake Hiwassee -CERTIFIED!!
For all the skeptics out there who might be thinking is this fish really for REAL, well think again! To put it to rest Local TV 4 has contacted the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission. We first talked with Doug Besler who verified the catch, but to go further he sent us to Mr. Powell Wheeler of Waynesville, N.C.. Mr. Wheeler is the District 9 Wildlife Fisheries Biologist. Mr. Wheeler said that in order for a fish to stand as a record it had to be weighed on a scale certifed by the N.C. Dept. of Agriculture. Mr. Wheeler drove down to Murphy from Waynesville Saturday the day of the catch and along with Sgt. Wade Burge weighed the Striper on such a scale. The fish came in at 66 pounds!! THE FISH IS FOR REAL!!
O.K. now this one is for all you anglers out there. Mr. Wheeler also said that testing on our local lakes has revealed some interesting information for Lake Hiwassee! For Stripers and Trout to do well the conditions have to be right. Well guess what? Cherokee Counties Lake Hiwassee has the enviroment! Stripers are not stocked in Lake Hiwassee but they are in Lake Nottley upstream from Hiwassee. Occasionally these guys make it through the turbines and end up in Lake Hiwassee. With no competition these guys can grow to record size. The folks at the Wildlife Resource Commission said that they knew it was just a matter of time before some of these Monsters started turning up!!
In a time when young people could be out getting into trouble, these local boys chose something better, fishing, and The Lord rewarded them for their efforts! Makes me think about my early days as a young man. Hunting and fishing was something we enjoyed, kept us out of trouble and provided some amazing stories for my children. Hats off Mr. Tyler Shields and friends for a Job well done!
